Koi carps are an ornamental fish variety indigenous to China and other East Asian countries. Or more precisely, they were first to domesticate the Koi Carps. The Chinese consider them a symbol of strength. The Koi Carp is the most popular fish, after the gold fish, in the foreign market. Although China began domesticating and breeding this fish variety, it has now fallen behind Japan and Israel in Koi Carp production.
The demand for these fishes usually depends on their color. Their shape, size and movements are also taken into consideration during selection. They grow very fast and can be fed artificial feed. It is ideal to grow Koi Carps in small ponds or tanks. But do keep in mind that their side profiles might not be as attractive as their top profiles. This is one of the main reasons why Koi Carps are grown in artificial ponds rather than in aquariums or fish tanks. These fish have a very good market value and popularity are hence a good source of income in ornamental fish farming.
